The Dolomites

Some of the Most Dramatic Mountain Scenery in Europe

The Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visually extraordinary landscapes on earth. The pale limestone towers and jagged ridgelines that define the skyline here particularly at sunrise and sunset, when they glow pink and orange in a phenomenon the locals call the enrosadüra are unlike any other mountain range in the world. This is not a landscape that impresses gradually. It stops you in your tracks.

The Dolomites are accessible as a long day trip from Venice approximately two hours by private transfer to Cortina d'Ampezzo or the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area but they reward longer stays. Whether you are visiting in summer for walking, cycling, and via ferrata, or in winter for skiing in one of Europe's finest ski areas, Travel Talkiz can arrange your transfers, your guides, and the logistical details that make the difference between a complicated mountain trip and a seamless one.

Cortina d'Ampezzo is the grande dame of Dolomite resorts elegant, expensive, and surrounded by scenery of almost absurd drama. In winter it is one of Europe's great ski destinations, hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics. In summer it is a hiking and cycling base of the highest order, with cable cars and chairlifts opening up the high terrain to walkers of all abilities. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo or three vertical limestone towers rising above 2,900 metres are reachable by car and then a moderate circular walk, and they constitute one of the great visual experiences of a lifetime in the mountains.

The South Tyrol, centered on Bolzano, adds a further dimension. This is a region that spent centuries under Austrian rule and only became Italian in 1919 and it shows, in the architecture, the language, the food, and the wine. The Südtirol Alto Adige produces some of Italy's finest white wines Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Bianco of exceptional quality. A lunch at a traditional Tyrolean Gasthof, with a glass of local wine and a view of the mountains, is one of the quiet pleasures of the region.

Also reachable from the Dolomites:Belluno (gateway to the eastern Dolomites), Bressanone/Brixen (beautiful Tyrolean town, 45 minutes from Bolzano), Merano (spa town, vineyards, extraordinary setting).
